2008 was another successful season for current and past Lou Gehrig players this summer in the Mercer County American Leagion League (MCALL). There were 39 players playing Legion baseball this spring, playing on 10 of the 11 teams in the league.

Leading the way was MCALL Rookie of the Year Anthony Verderese. While it was a difficult season for Broad Street Park, Verderese was outstanding at the plate and in the field. A number of players also received recognition for their performance this year. Based on selections by Red Birch of the Trentonian, 12 players were named to the All-MCALL team.

On the first team was Hightstown pitcher Kevin Burum ('04) and North Trenton catcher Chris Pierfy ('04-'06), who was named as a DH. The second team was highlighted by Lawrence outfielder Brian Mills ('06) and Ewing outfielder Carl Cullers ('03-'05). A large group of Lou Gehrig players were also named to the Hororable Mention team. Broad Street Park shortstop James Lauer ('03-'06) and outfielder Verderese ('05-'08) were named, as was Ewing firstbaseman Asa Rodriguez ('02-'05), North Trenton shortstop Jordan Guest ('06-'08), and West Windsor pitcher Kyle Reed ('06-'07).

Other Honorable Mention nominees, who played Fall Ball for Lou Gehrig in 2007 included Trenton outfielder Carlos DeJesus, Trenton infielder Jose Garcia and Ewing infielder Tyler Cignarella.
