Lou
Gehrig Fall Ball

by Bill Lingrell
In Fall Baseball playoff action, Hamilton Lou Gehrig A defeated
Pennsbury C, 8 - 6,
Pennsbury jumped ahead early, turning three first inning errors
into three runs. Pitcher TJ Hargraves was able to stabilize the
game, recorded six strikeouts in allowing only three runs in three
innings.
The offense then took advantage of the Pennsbury bullpen, as they
quickly tied things up in the top of the 4th inning. Singles by
Anthony Chiappetta and Jeff Zimmer set the table for a booming two-run
double by Hargraves. Judy Galayda singled home Hargraves to tie
the score.
Pennsbury took a brief lead as Jeff Karczewski allowed back to
back doubles before getting a strikeout to end the 4th. Ryan Minnick,
Jason Ghaffoor, and Ben Shankle drew walks to start the 5th. With
one out, Karczewski singled home Minnick to tie the score again.
Zimmer then responded with a two out single to plate Ghaffoor, giving
Lou Gehrig the lead for good.
Dan Elliott and Galayda scored runs on a long hit from Chris Pierfy
to increase the Lou Gehrig lead to 7-4. A run by Alex Wolfinger
in the 7th gave Lou Gehrig an 8-4 lead, which they needed as Pennsbury
used a Lou Gehrig error, two walks, and two hits to bring the winning
run to the plate in the bottom of the 7th. Ross Nanfeldt reponded
by getting a strikeout to end the game.
A highlight of the game was Lou Gehrig stopping a potential triple
for Pennsbury when Galayda and Hargraves made perfect relay throws
to third baseman Zimmer on a ball hit to the left field fence.
