HAMILTON - It's widely known the best things about high school football in The Times' area are the weekly 12th Man Touchdown Club dinners and the annual Sunshine Football Classic all-star game.

The two came together once again at Sunshine Foundation Night at the Hamilton Elks last night.

Game director Jim Griffin delivered a $4,200 check to Sunshine Foundation president Cathy DiCostanzo on behalf of the Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame - easily the highlight of the evening.

"This is a lot of money," said DiCostanzo about the funds, which come directly from the game's proceeds each summer. "This will help make a lot of wishes and dreams come true. I wish the kids could be there (at the game), but they are there in spirit."

The all-star game's proceeds also produced a pair of $1,000 scholarships to be awarded at the Chapter's Scholar-Athlete-Leader dinner in March.

This year's game, Griffin announced, is slated for June 30, 2005, at The College of New Jersey's Lions Stadium.

It will not, however, be a matchup of Skyland Conference all-stars against Mercer County's finest. Instead, the teams will be comprised of schools belonging to the chapter and will be divided up accordingly in the near future.

-- -- -- Two Colonial Valley Conference squads will be handed their first loss this weekend, while a pair of teams are gunning for their first win.

Notre Dame visits Hightstown in a showdown of 3-0 squads at David J. McIntire Field Friday night.

"They're where they want to be and we're where we want to be," said Notre Dame head coach Chappy Moore. "We looked at the schedule and said that maybe this game could be between two unbeatens. It's exciting for us and we didn't have to ask for anyone's attention (yesterday) at practice."

Hopewell Valley hosts Ewing on Saturday afternoon, when one team will emerge with its first win in four games.

"We can't take them lightly," said Ewing head coach John Bamber. "They are looking for their first win and we can't let that happen against us."
